Spruce Creek Baseball
Nominated by: John Goodrich
A champion is one who victors in a challenge or in a competition. The Spruce Creek High School Baseball team epitomizes the word champion. They are champions on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.
On the baseball field you can count on Spruce Creek to bring a tough, no-nonsense, workman like attitude. Creek has won three district championships in the previous decade (2000, 2002, and 2009) and participated in the state playoffs series a total of 5 times during that same time frame. During that time period over 30 players continued their playing career in college or professional baseball.
In 2010 the Spruce Creek Baseball continued another tradition, winning the Academic State Championship for the third time in the last four years. This award is giving to the high school baseball team in the state of Florida with the highest non-weighted GPA. The 2010 Creek baseball team carried a team GPA of 3.528 which included 4 players with a perfect 4.0.
The Hawks also contributed thousands of volunteer hours in the community. The Hawks participated in the breast awareness softball game which monies were raised for breast cancer awareness. The players have spent countless hours at the local recreation center officiating games for the recreation department. The Creek baseball team also participated in their annual military night which raises monies for families of disabled soldiers.
As I stated before, when you hear of Spruce Creek Baseball you should hear the echo of champion ringing through your ears. The team epitomizes what a champion does on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. I believe they would be an outstanding representative for Allen Sportswear and what Allen Sportswear represents.
