The Lady Cougars basketball team has posted impressive accomplishments on the court in previous years. However, their achievements in the community and classroom are just as impressive. The team works every year with Second Harvest, preparing food boxes, sponsors thanksgiving dinners for Central Florida families in need, provide toys for underprivileged children at Christmas time, and hold their annual Think Pink classic with teams all around Florida to raise Breast Cancer Awareness. They have accomplished all of these things while posting an overall team GPA of 3.1. When the team heard about the Dress the Champions program, they knew from the beginning that they fit the mold. There was plenty of buzz on the campus surrounding the program as students spent their time before school and during lunch casting votes, sharing on Facebook, and reaching out to family and friends for support. Votes began to pour in not only from Florida, but also as far away as Afghanistan where school supporters were serving in our Nation’s Armed Forces. Once they were declared winners, the coaching staff received an overwhelming amount of letters congratulating them and wishing the team luck. Dress the Champions created positive attention for the program and gave the students, staff, and community the opportunity to support the commitment of the players and coaches to becoming champions.
